Posted here and to the Bujold list, as this is rather short notice...

Michael Bernardi is in Atlanta for GaFilk, and will be here until Thursday. Is there any interest in a MiniLoisCon before he goes? The proposal is a gathering at my house (ignore the mess....feel free to surf the bookshelves) probably with a call for Chinese delivery. (Food choice is negotiable.) My house is in northeast Atlanta, roughly halfway between Emory and the Northlake area off Lavista Road.

Tuesday or Wednesday evenings are probably the options. Interested? Send me email...

It's the weekend for GaFilk, my local filk con, and the only con I regularly go to. I missed last year as I was helping cope with my father's health problems, so it's good to be back. The crowd seems a little smaller than usual--guess that's somewhat a reflection of hard economic times, and perhaps some of weather.

Cut for those not interested in cons, filk, etc... )

After the concert, [livejournal.com profile] mbernardi pumpkined. I wandered into the con suite for a while, came back to the main filk room to see that the open filking, as usual, was slow to form--lots of general socializing happens first, especially on the first night. I decided to retire to my room and perhaps come down later...but ended up getting absorbed on the Internet (curse you, [livejournal.com profile] mbernardi , I grabbed 4 new apps for my iPod!) and stayed up too late without even the excuse of listening to filk.

Just got the GaFilk announcement of their Super Secret Guests for 2009: Emma Bull and Will Shetterly. Must re-read War for the Oaks before January...and I think I never finished Freedom and Necessity. I do have books by each that need to be dug out for autographing.

Missed my regular Sunday meeting because I was at GaFilk, so I bolted from my review session at work to go to a noon meeting today. From one sort of measurement to another, I guess. Results on the second: down 1.2 pounds, for a total of 14.4. Despite the weekend of fast food and other irregular eating at GaFilk.

Telling everyone around me that I am on Weight Watchers (or any diet) really does help me. While I don't really think that anyone I saw at GaFilk, mostly people I see once a year, would shake a finger at me if I was "bad", I still behave myself better for having announced that I'm dieting. May this sort of mental maneuver continue to work for me after the early dieting enthusiasm wears off...
