A brief moment of your time for a good cause, if you will...
I'm taking part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 21. Type 1 diabetes got up close and personal with me last December, when my niece was diagnosed at age 9. We're having a family team for the Walk (that's my brother, sister-in-law, the 2 nieces, the nephew, and me), trying to do our bit to raise money for research for a cure.
My niece is doing well on an insulin pump, but her life has boundaries set by the realities of monitoring and treating the diabetes. The serious-to-fatal complications that can arise are frightening. However, there seems to be some real hope for a cure for type 1 diabetes that would mean my niece and the millions of other people with the disease might not have to live the rest of their lives with it. If any of you can make a donation, it might help that happen. And I'd be very grateful!
And now back to your regularly scheduled LJ...
